Kolkata: Two people died and several others were injured when an under-construction building collapsed on Sunday night. A five-storey building collapsed around midnight in Hazari Molla Bagan in Garden Reach area. At least 10 people were pulled from the debris. Officials said on Monday that the five-storey building located in Hazari Mulla Bagan in Garden Reach area collapsed late night. After this, a search and rescue operation was launched in view of the possibility of people being buried under the debris. Kolkata Police Commissioner Vineet Goyal visited the site and took stock of the rescue operation. A police officer said, “Late on Sunday night, an under-construction building collapsed in the Garden Reach area. We have pulled out some people from the debris. The rescue operation is still going on.'' Ambulances have been deployed at the spot. According to local people, pieces of concrete had fallen before the building collapsed. He told that when the building collapsed, there was a loud noise and a cloud of dust spread over the entire area. In this densely populated area, building debris also fell on the nearby slums. Leader of Opposition in West Bengal, Subhendu Adhikari, said in a post on "I have been receiving distress calls about possible casualties," he said.
