– Decision to install armor in trains to prevent train accidents

Mumbai: On Monday, Sabarmati-Agra Cantt Superfast Express and a goods train collided near Madar Railway Station in Ajmer, Rajasthan. The accident was so severe that 4 coaches including the engine of the express derailed. Earlier, a triple train accident had happened in Balasore, Odisha. 280 passengers died in this accident. But now Western Railways has decided to install a new system to prevent these train accidents. Western Railway has decided to install armor in long distance trains in Mumbai and this armor will be installed between Mumbai Central and Virar. This system will work with radio technology at ultra high frequency. Let us know what is Kavach SystemVach Protection System An indigenous Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system is being installed by Indian Railways to enhance the safety of the trains already running. An armor protection system helps the locomotive pilot avoid danger signals. However, Auxiliary Warning System (AWS) will be installed for the safety of local trains. Developed in India, this technology slows down and applies brakes automatically when two cars come head-to-head on the same track. As a result, major accidents can be avoided due to this system. The work of installing this system has started on Western Railway and armor will be installed in the train from Ratlam to Mumbai. The work is expected to be completed by June 2024. This is how the system works. Western Railways has awarded a separate contract for the installation of the armor in three phases.
