– Indian startups will raise $8-12 billion this year: Peak XV

A senior executive at New Delhi venture capital firm Peak XV said on Monday that Indian startups are looking to raise $8-12 billion this year. He said at the Startup Mahakumbh organized here that the country's startup ecosystem is the most vibrant in the world. Nearly US$20 billion of private capital is lying uninvested and is committed to investing in private firms and startups in India. He said the amount of investment in Indian startups before 2021 was around $8-10 billion, which will increase to $60 billion in 2021 and 2022 combined. Last year it was seven billion dollars, which people said was less. It could also have been zero, because six years of funding was available in two years. This year we are on track for $8-10 or $12 billion. He said funding of $10 billion or about Rs 80,000 crore every year is sufficient for the Indian startup ecosystem. He said that today there are about 20 startups in India which are listed on the stock market and their number is expected to increase to 100 in the next 7-8 years.
